Chiv's combat doesn't necessarily exude coolness, but when I fight off 3-4 guys successfully, I can say, "that was all me." There's also the fact that in Chiv you're not exactly playing the same caliber fighter.Īnd that's the thing, I'm all for keeping the old system if there's no way to make Chiv combat look visually as awesome as TW2's. Yeah, but to me it distilled down to "click at a rythmic interval, maybe dodge, maybe throw down some fire/wind magics" which, while looking awesome, left me feeling fairly detached from combat. Maybe they could do something like in Severance aka Blade of Darkness where you had unlockable moves activated by certain key combos.

In a third-person perspective RPG I think it's important that the character just look badass while fighting like that. Maybe there's still more that can be done, but I was pretty happy with the combat in 2. Sure, more realistic melee combat in Chivarly is fun, but visually watching guys fight is NOWHERE near as cool looking as the crazy animations and moves Geralt had in TW2. Yeah, that's the main thing with that type of combat though, is it just doesn't look as cool. That said, I'll still settle for the current system if they deliver on the rest-and I firmly believe they can. If they could combine that kind of active combat with all the niceties that come with being a witcher-looking like a cool dude, alchemy, Signs and all the crazy sword flourishes-it'll grab me in ways Skyrim never could. I want my skill as a player to have more impact beyond rolling around and picking the right weapon/stance/pre-fight Red Bulls. I can't count how many times I've survived bad situations (outnumbered, low health, etc.) in Chivalry due to proper footwork and good old-fashioned sword-fightin', and I've love for that kind of thing to get implemented in The Witcher 3. Combat in TW2 wasn't bad per se (and was certainly an improvement over TW's, to me) but I felt it was one of the weaker aspects of the game and I'd love to feel more involved. I know I keep saying this everywhere, but bring in Chivalry's combat-dismemberment, player-guided weapon attacks, "easier" freedom of movement, etc. Honestly at this point the only thing I'd want more that they aren't really talking about is a more involved, non click-based fighting system.
